It may have been decided before he came to stay that when it was his turn to go he’d leave us just this way. There’ll always be a reason behind each awful trial, If we’ll endure this season We’ll find it’s been worthwhile. So lift your heads up proudly Forget your loss and grief The time, though very cloudy, will be so very brief And then some bright tomorrow You’ll meet him in great light The reason for your sorrow will then be made all right. Perhaps he’ll say “I love you, Sorry you had to cry. To prove my Faith was really true I chose this way to die.” And then he’ll hug and kiss you; Your joy will be complete. Your guy has proven true blue; His life has been so sweet. So it matters not your duty but how you get it done Your guy has Eternal Beauty And his race of life is won And we will all remember the sweetness of his face We’ll live a little better since We’ve known him and the way he lived so beautifully. 32 Give us . . . Men with courage, strength, and fight, Power, skill, dexterity, Possessors of nerve and might, Men with honor and good will, Men who fight for our school’s fame, Fit to win the game of life. Glen Vernon, the Senior Class President, is always an ardent leader in school and religious activities. He has a personality plus-—friendly “hi” — laughing eyes — and always a lending hand. These are truly characteristics Glen pos- sesses and shares with others. Her enthusiasm for school-student functions, her cooperation, courteousness, and service have made Harriet Watkins one of the top personali- ties of the Senior Class. These are just a few of the school affairs she has been in during her three years at Uintah High School; Student Council, Girls’ Stater, Junior Prom Decorations Chairman, Seminary Graduate, F.H.A., Com- mercial, and Girls’ League Presidents. Her fav- orite class is Geology. 62 Gayle McKechanie was chosen the top male personality of the Sophomore Class. He is a very responsible Sophomore Class President. He also plays basketball as one of the main five of the “B” Team. He is a member of the F.H.A. and worked dilligently on the Sophie Swung. Gayle is an out- standing personality and a wonderful person to be ac- quainted with as we make our way up the mountain. pn i , Syble Watkins has been eager to serve. She is congenial and conscientious in all her endeav- ors. Her position as Junior Class Vice President and an outstanding member of the U’ettes, and F.H.A. Club, and Seminary have enabled us to spotlight her for achievements in school service. Syble has maintained a “B” average throughout her high school years. Britt Horrocks is the kind of person who can make anyone feel important. He is active in sports and is on the basketball and track teams. His attitude of willingness, cooperation, and friendliness have rated him outstanding in per- sonality. Britt maintains a “B” average. Chosen as the top female per- sonality of the Sophomore class was Kathy Robinson. She is known around our school for writing the Ute News for the Vernal Express. Kathy is in the F.H.A. Club, Science Club and was Co- Chairman for the Sophie Swing Assembly. Kathy has a friendly “hi” to all she meets. Kathy is a welcome addition to the friends we make as we journey toward our goal. Kathy has maintained an “A” average. 63 Homecoming Queen 64 Attendants Lana Abegglen made an exceptionally sweet Homecoming attendant. Lana, a Junior, is outstanding in school affairs. Her personality will make our pathway to the top much brighter. For Harvest Ball Queen the Utes chose blue-eyed Jeanne Siddoway. She is very active and is a guiding light of beauty along our mountain trail. 66 Harvest Ball Queen A real cute Sophie. Janet Banks was chosen for Har- vest Ball attendant. With her A-l personality and charm she will make our mountain way brighter. Ilene Flynn, a new Junior in our midst, made a big hit as Harvest Ball attendant. With her beautiful blonde hair she will be a main attraction on our mountain path. The girls at Uintah certainly made a wise choice in picking Mike Hall as their most preferred man. With Mike’s fascinating personality, good looks, and marvelous voice, he really “wows” the girls. Mike is a good addition to the personalities on our mountain trail. Most Preferred Man Classroom Shots Hey, Charlie! What do we do now . . . Food at last Look at this fish Cheese Is everybody listening . . . Cute typewriters, huh! Dances Sing Sing A Night Taking place in a science lab, the Christinas Assembly brought the season’s spirit to life in the numbers the Uette’s presented. A Night in Sing Sing 71 Harriet Watkins, with her inquisitive and eager mind, cooperative and willing spirit, and extracurricular activities has enabled her to be awarded Student of the Month for Sep- tember. She was chairman of the Homecom- ing Assembly and also the Exchange As- sembly. She attended Utah Girls’ State and this, academic year has served as, Girls’ League President. She is a member of the F.H.A., Commercial, and U’ettes. We honor you, Harriet. Susan Miracle was chosen as the outstanding student for November. Her willingness to work is shown in the many activities she is active in. She is Secretary of Senior Class, a member of the F.H.A., a member of the Senior Project Committee and last summer she was a representative of our school at Utah Girls’ State. She has done an outstand- ing job as the Vice President of the U’ettes. Our salute to you, Susan. Students o f t h e M o n t h Glen Vernon, a modest and benevolent Senior was chosen to be honored for the month of October. Exceptional executive talents has enabled him to be an excellent Senior Class President and take upon the responsibilities of all the Senior activities. He has been very active in the Thespian Club in which he has been in the school play, debate and radio speech. He is also a active member of the Boys’ Pepe. To you Glen, our gratitude. Gayle McKeachnie, a progressing Sophomore has added one more feather to his bonnet of fine achievements in being chosen as the out- standing student for December. In his first year at U.H.S. his class has voted him in to class President. With his superior qualities in leadership he is a very fine member to the Student Council. He is a member of the F.F.A. and he did a fine job on the Sopho- more Swing Assembly. We wish success always to you, Gayle. Mexico City is the home of Felecitas (Tita) and Andrea Preza, our two exchange students this year. Tita, a Senior, who is studying to become a secretarial interpreter, is studying two languages . . . English and Spanish. She is amazed at the many different subjects that are taught in our school. Andrea, a Sophomore, as well as her sister, started school at the age of 4 years. They attended 2 years of elementary school, 6 years of secondary elementary and will finish 3 years of high school. Andrea’s two favorite subjects are history and chemistry. Our history study is a little different inasmuch as in Mexico they have a more detailed history course. Her favorite pastimes are movies and school in this country. Both girls like school here and life here but they do miss such small things as fresh fruit. At home they have Papayas and Watermelons the year around. The girls come from a family of 10. Five brothers and three sisters. Their oldest brother is studying to become an Engineer. Their father is a businessman. He owns a market and a grocery store. Their mother is a housewife. The Preza home is a ranch with a swimming pool and patio, where the girls enjoy their favorite sports, basketball and volleyball. The high school from which Tita, who is now a sophomore at the University, graduated and which Andrea still attends is a little different than ours. The uniform which is worn is blue and yellow, which are the school colors. Symbol of the school is the Puma. And, like most middle class high schools of Mexico, they have a nice swimming pool. Both girls are of Roman Catholic religion. Although from Mexico both girls are like U. S. teenagers in many respects. Such as our movie idols are the same. Rock Hudson, Ricky Nelson and Pat Boone. We hope these girls enjoyed coming to our school as much as we enjoyed having them here. Showing parents and students alike what real music is, the chorus and band, under the direction of Mr. Veibell, presented a program enjoyed by all. 1 Give us . . . These, Our Cheerleaders, of Uintah High, Have brightened OUR spirits and raised OUR voices. Each time we had a crisis before us, “THEY” were there to render service to anyone in need of a friend. THANKS—from all of us at Uintah. Marjorie Hopkins These girls are sweet— These girls are Queens. We wish them Luck— In finding their Kings, And happiness always— Whatever life brings. Maryl Glines Lana Abegglen Lana Abegglen, Maryl Glines, Marjorie Hopkins, Sharee Stringham. “Give us men,” Did you say?
