UINTAHN nineteen hundred fifty seven Uintah High School Vernal, Utah A very simple one is he Who never in a face can see No more than eyes and lips and hair. Or maybe a complexion fair. For in a face there is to see A person's thoughts and history. Yet outwardly he may look sad Or maybe happy; maybe glad. For there are some who ne'er portray Their real life throughout the day. And one light glance will never tell If he is sad or happy and well. So judge not with a passing glance To judge him right there's little chance But deeper study you must make Or you'll his character mistake. But better still make him a friend And then all doubting soon will end. Lawrence Wilkinson Jeanene Adamson, Editor Reed L. Tyler, M I Him 11 1,1 I1 A mm km uilfl DEDICATION To Arthur C. Wiscombe, principal of Uintah High School, who, with his warm understanding, ready wit, and vigorous new educational philosophy, reached out and welded students, faculty, parents, and school patrons into a harmonious whole. He helped to build in our school in this, its second year of existence in our new home, its true spirit. May this year at Uintah High be long remembered by Mr. Wiscombe and his family in the years to come. REQUIEM To Norma, our classmate, gone now from our midst Tears still to thee we send; Poor relics of our heart, a gift to Death, From love that knows no end. Useless our gifts, our anguish and our pain; In death thou dost abide. Clear-eyed, sweet-smiling,—seventeen Oh why? Oh why? We cried! Kind earth, all mother, on our knees we pray. Guard her whom still we weep; Her gentle body on thy bosom lay, And let her softly sleep. Adapted by June F. Stewart from Meleager's classical Greek poem, To Heliodora . A valiant band of warriors brave From Uintah High are we In every fight we'll lend a hand To strive for loyalty We'll fight them fair in work or play We'll beat them square in every way We can't be beat, You'll always hear us say let's give three cheers for our Uintah let's sing aloud for our old high We'll battle for our colors red and white Our glories unfold to the sky Our fighting Utes are ever out to win Our warriors bold take nothing less We'll ever scalp dame victory, yes We'll ever fight for U. Sunset and evening star.’ And one clear call for! And may there be no moaning of the bar When I put out to sea. But such a tide as moving seems asleep. Too full for sound and foam, When that which drew from out the boundless deep, Turns again home. Twlight and evening bell. And after that the dark! And may there be no sadness of farewell When I embark. For tho' from out our bourne of time and place The flood may bear me far, I hope to see my pilot face to face When I have crossed the bar. — Alfred Lord Tennyson MRS. McTHING Mrs. Howard V.
