Pep Band Mixed Chorus Adding to the outstanding performance of the Mid-winter Carnival, the Mixed Chorus, with its Mexican Dance and beautiful Christmas Carols, brought out much of Uintah's musical talent. BOYS' QUARTET GIRLS' TRIO Billy's bass, with Lee and Gerald singing tenor, and Dilworth singing baritone, brought much enthusiasm during the mid-winter concert and the many assemblies, for the Boys' Quartet. Ann, Pat, and Jean made up a beautiful tal- ented trio. Accompanied by Janet Johnson, they charmed the audience many times this year with their singing. 73 Senior JIMMY ABEGGLEN, BETTY RICHARDS. JANIE ODEKIRK Typist JOYCE ROBBINS Business Manager 79 EDITOR CONNIE OAKS has done a swell job this year in putting out the school paper. Perhaps Connie's success should be attributed to her willingness to work with the other members on her staff. We of the school say, Thanks, Connie! DTE ROW WOW JOLEEN TIMOTHY filled the position of Assistant Editor to the letter. She is fun and above all knows how to work when the time rolls around to put out our school paper. May we say thanks to you, too, Joleen. 80 This year the Ute Pow Wow staff has had a very exciting time putting out the annual school papers. With twenty-six members on the staff, the papers get a variety of different ideas. But then we still have our troubles of trying to get our paper out in due time. A certain amount of time is given to our reporters to gather information. A deadline is set for the information and events to go in the paper. When the paper was ready to be stenciled, we then knew we had accomplished our duty. Some of the fun moments were when we had headaches of trying to put a paper out after ruining two or three stencils. You can't put a paper out if half of the staff has suddenly disappeared. And if you heard screaming and something that sounded like a stampede, you knew Ronnie Hatch was heckling the girls again. Smoke Signals is also one of our willing duties being presented every Friday at 6:05. But at the end of the year the staff's only comment is, It really has been fun, and Joe Jensen has been a swell adviser. They learned many things that will help both themselves and their school. The winners of the I Speak For Demacrocy contest at Uintah were Clair Hopkins, Charlene Kay, Elinor King, Pat Lee, and Jeanie Hodgkinson. Clair also won second place in our region. Winners BOYS' STATE, here we come, was in the minds of Blaine Palmer, Gene Fox, Bob Murray, Karl Baese, Kenneth Hacking, and Ralph Olsen, as they traveled to Camp Williams to learn many useful things in a democracy. Tom Wardell was absent when the pic- ture was taken. Renee Henderson, Pat Lee, and Rae Oxborrow represented Uintah High as GIRLS' STATE last summer. We know they did a swell job and had loads of fun doing it, from the many things they have said about their experiences. 82 I Who’s Who ; v ' Other members of the Senior Who's Who were: Rae Oxborrow, Miriam Smith, Pat Lee, Jean Hodgkinson, Jeanie Johnstun, DeLoy Vernon, Gene Fox, Jay B. Winners of the annual scholarship award were presented with beautiful watches by Gardner's Jewelry. 83 This year Uintah played host to the Region Speech Meet held March 26. Why not talk about us? Please, Bill, let's not spoil the evening. “Dear Ruth” 86 This year's school play, directed by Joseph Jensen and student director Clair Hopkins, was a big success. Ruth's troubles brought on by her younger sister Miriam, brought endless laughs. Ruth's love affairs were going along smoothly and she was engaged to marry Albert Rum- mer. Then the doings of her little sister, Miriam, came to light. Miriam had been trying to cheer up a soldier boy, whose name she had obtained by writing to him. She sent him Ruth's picture and signed Ruth's name. The soldier, Lt. William Seawright, had fallen hard for Ruth, so when he actually came to see her, he hoped to take her back with him. Ruth went out with the poor soldier to break the news to him, but she just couldn't bring herself to do it. After going with Lt. Seawright all of his ieave, she finally managed to tell him the truth. But it was the truth no more, for she had fallen in love with him. As the play ends, a sailor enters, with high hopes and good intentions also. DORENE REYNOLDS......................... Beautiful Monta Rae Caldwell was crowned queen over the annual Sweetheart Ball, spon- sored by the Associated Student Council. She was crowned by Bob Murray, our Student Body President.
