i r iz f s History of Class of 27 In the year of 1923 about IOS little boys and girls boarded the train U. H. S and started for their destination Education , Their journey was to continue for four years, and they equipped themselves with their Latins and Algebras. The other classmen that were aboard this train called them Freshies and laughed at them and their many mistakes. This, however, did not last long. Hal Cummings was elected to guide them safely through their journey to the first stopping place, Vacation',. The Senior Class gave them a Hard Times Partyn and in this manner managed to bridge the gap between the two classes. The summer vacation soon passed and the train was boarded again, but this time as Sophomores . Nedra Ramsour was elected President in order to lead them safely through the second year. A May Party was the only social event of the year. Many of the class were beginning to shine on the Athletic Field. Thus the year passed and the second stopping place was reached. The next year came in with a rush. Nedra Ramsour was chosen again to guide those that had boarded the train for the third time, for not all had come aboard this time as they had become so fascinated with the stopping place Vacation,' they had forgotten to get back on. Many of the members were prominent on the athletic field. Among the football contestants were jesse Dempster, Robert Marshall, Hal Cummings and Everett Bromwich. The girls that were starring on the basketball floor were Lois Brakebill, Elizabeth Patterson, Ruth Taylor, Hazel Siegrist and Ethel Van Lehn. A Kid Party had been held in April which was enjoyed by all, and in May, that year, the juniors entertained the Seniors at the junior-Senior Banquet. This class can look back over that year with a glow of pride, for it was the greatest success of their three years aboard the train. Thus the-third year went out in a blaze of glory. And now the last glorious year with all it's trials and tribulations. But it is worth all of these just to have the lower classmen look up at us with a kind of awe. Nedra Ramsour was re-elected to guide the train to its destiny. The class proved its superiority over the other classes in many ways. The girls Basketball team with Captain Brakebill, Elizabeth Patterson, Ethel Van Lehn, Ruth Taylor and Hazel Siegrist on. It lost only one game. We entertained the Freshmen at a Hallowe'en Party which was intended to break the ice between the two classes. Then we held a Senior Class Party and everyone worked hard to make it a success, which it was. Now with great enthusiasm we are awaiting graduation and then we shall have arrived at our destination. -Gladys' Paltermn 28
