Fox Division is composed of Gunner's Mates and Fire Control Technicians. Fox Division had an excellent deployment and while on the gunline they proved to all that they are among the best. Around the clock work by the Gunner's Mates was neces- Sary to keep the guns in top condition on the line. Although we had close to fifty minor casualties with the gun mounts while we were shooting we never failed to answer a call for fire, thanks to the hard work of the Gunner's Mates. The FTS were in charge of plotting all target solutions on the ship's fire control computer. AS a part of the overall gunfire support team the FTS never let the rest of the group down. They were always ready with timely and accurate solutions. At one point, UHLMANN was assigned to clear a landing zone with many rounds of ammunition on two Separate targets in a very short period. Normally a destroyer can only take one target under fire at a time. However, the Fire Control Technicians on UHLMANN devised a method of control to split the five inch battery and'br.ing rapid continuous fire on both targets at the same time. Efforts such as this distinguished Fox Division and UHLMANN while on the line. .m, ---f----1-'I --' ' -
