I The varied responsibilities of the Supply Department did much to make our work easier and more enjoyable. The services provided by the Supply Department included T all messing, laundry and ship's store services, pay for the crew, and procurement of vital repair parts. The Supply Department prepared over ten thousand pounds of beef, more than forty thousand pounds of potatoes. Approximately four hundred thousand dollars in pay was handled by the Disbursing Clerks. The efforts of the Supply Department are not always appreciated because so many of their services become so much a part of the everyday routine on board ship. However, as we look back on six and a half months of hard steaming it is quite evident that the hours would have been a lot longer without the conveniences provided by the Supply Depart- ment. In particular special mention should go to the UI-ILMANN bakers who without 'Y a doubt are some of the best in the fleet. Their daily pastries and bread helped to T , provide a touch of home that few ships are fortunate enough to have.
