OC I Division was responsible for all communications, both voice and visual. Over the I six and one half month period a total of seventy-five thousand messages passed through the UI-lLM.ANN'S Message Center. In order to. give a better idea of just how I much traffic this amounted to that would have been enough to cover an area of about 3, sixteen acres with quarter inch type. In addition to the messages received over the teletypes, the Signal Bridge handled close to eight thousand messages or an average , of over thirteen hundred messages per man. In addition to the radiomen and signal- I I , I M men, the Hospital Corpsmen also are in OC Division. Fortunately the corpsmen did I not have any major injuries to contend with during the deployment. However, they 4 were kept busy fighting the flu and treating minor injuries. On one occasion a small Vietnamese boy was brought aboard with a Wound in his hand. The corpsmen respon ded quickly and showed they were capable of handling an emergency under adverse II conditions in treating the boy.
