Here they form a dollar sign. Then going still further to make U. S. Grant proud of them again the band came home from the Midwest City marching contest with a trophy and a 2+ rating. Early morning drill practice on songs, and much extra work, were hard at the time but when it was all over band members really had something to be proud of. Director, Mr. Don Todd, not only encourages members to become fine musicians but also to be good sportsmen.

The whistle is blown by the Drum Major, jerry Smoot, and he and Band Queen, Paulette jenkins, step off followed by the lovely twirlers and finally the pride of U. S. Grant, the band. This was a familiar sight at half-time at all home football games. With officers President, Dean Coppageg Vice- President, Doug Shieldsg Treasurer and Secretary, Shirley Shraderg Equipment Manager, Don Youngg and Student Director, Doug Shields and Chuck Stubbs, the Band didn't stop activities with the close of football season. No Sir! There were candy sells, l magazines drives, paper drives, placks and other ' money raising projects. 1
