CLASSIFICATION URING the flrst day of in-ptocessing, a Vital phase of Navy lifeethat of Classi- ficationebegins. By means of a battery of aptitude and other tests, followed later by per- sonal interviews, each recruits previous training and education, past experience, skills, aptitude, motivation and personal interests are explored, analyzed and considered in relation to Navy jobs. The end result of this classification process is the eventual assignment of a recruit upon graduation to a general detail with further on-the-job train- ing, or to a technical school for training in special- ized fields. Whatever the assignment, the classifi- cation procedure insures thatewithin the practi- cal limits of modern personnel selection tech- niqueseeach individual is channeled into a billet wherein he will be able to contribute his utmost toward the accomplishment of the Navyis mission.
