Iles, Pelly Officer. QQQHE career of Company 53 at Johnson Hall can very readily be divided i11to two periods. tl1e hrst of which is aptly desig- nated B. C. - before cruise - si11ce tl1e cruise C311 be classed as a fairly climactic episode for all con- cerned. not excluding even Section 17. Of course. tl1e Notre Dame saga cannot be disregarded re- portorially as an epoch of great molding infiuence, but since 111611 like Jameson. Howells. and Joyce. to Illelltlljll a few, have expressed a Vt?l'lE1T16llt desire to render i11to oblivion tl1e figures they cut in mid- die. neckerchief. et al. no further mention of N. D. will be made here. On second thought, however, it might be well to recall tl1at as we marched those many miles at N. D. under the bellow of one HllI'Sl1 we never had the slightest thought of ho ' H1 someday would go to P. T. sc . t Jones. C. F. Johnson. R. gl1 Hib , Hart. Howell. But for that matter. who would ever have imagined tl1at the Astor Bar would be graced of a Saturday by tl1e combined force of personalities like Herold, Grubb, Hansen, Gunner, and Hawk- ridge? It is at just such gatherings as those that men do consort with the past, and conjure up images already historical. Such as, for example, the unfor- gettable sight of Ketcham, Jurgensen. Jordan, Key- lor, a11d King on the prowl in Times Square on their first week-end liberty. looking like wolves: or tl1e owl-like look of Griggs, Haire. Hibbard. and Greene when forming for morning exercise. One of the funniest things imaginable is tl1e way Guido- l3OIli took blinker one day very intently, a11d when AR came, found tl1at there had been no ink i11 his fountain pen. And who could forget Hutchins, Hundertmark, both Hubbards, Holbrook, and Helm in their new, skin-tight midshp111e11's uniforrns? If any of the sections consider the cruise to be a high-point in their lives at Johnson, certainly Sec- tio11 17 does. It was Sl1Cl1 fun. And it was so good of tl1e officers not to 111ake tl1e 111611 adhere too rigidly to tl1e cl- y's schedule, especially since the men hadanq do anyway but stand at the st laugh m school was when Irby ap- proa led a lieutenant who had a dark cap cox 61 on his cap. tapped him on the shoulder, and said, 5ay. chief--i' and proceeded to ask him a question. Close second was tl1e time i11 Seanianship class whe11 the instructor asked what fog signal is given by a sailing vessel i11 a fog and L. C. Johnson volunteered brightly with. :Two black shapes at the foremast. Sir. lt would be safe to say. considering everything. that 53 can hold its own. A11d although we can't mention any more names here, each 111an is as i111- portant as the rest. and come graduation day, all stripes will be the same.
