Halsey, USMCR Chief of Flight When this course is completed, 0 cadet who finished it with a satisfactory grade has acquired Ci knowledge of orientation, beom-brockefing, unknown beam work and recognition of high and low radio cones, which indicate his position near his landing field. The value of insTrumenT Training cannot be measured and of Times seems of very small value, but if The weather becomes rough and visibility is poor, cmy Naval Aviator will be thankful for The Training given him by These Instrument Squadrons. v bunu Kiihngg!

SQUADRON 13A Main Base Lt. J. A. Mohlman, USNR Executive Officer Lt. Commander R. W. Arthur, USNR Commanding Officer Captain J. D. Thomson, USMCR Chief of Flight SQUADMNS Squadrons 13A, located on the Main Base of The N.A.T.B., and 13C, located at Beeville, Texas, were set up for one main purpose; To give future Naval Aviators The ability To fly in bad weather and land safely at Their destination. Instrument Training consists of fifteen hours devoted To flying The well known Link Trainer. This gives cadets the first sen- sotion of flying without any visual reference to the Terrain. Toward The end of ten link flights, radio procedure and beam flying are introduced. Actual flying is then put into use. Again, The ever-ready Vultee is on haid To teach students The sensations of flying blind and coming home riding a radio beam. The first stage of actual control of aircraft on instruments is concerned mainly with level, climbing and gliding Turns, stalls, spins, unusual position and the proper recoveries with instruments. The second stage is entirely the flying of radio ranges with the fundamentals learned previously.
