The OSQU Kingfisher scout observation plane used by the Navy primarily for patrol work has had amazing success with extra patrol duties. The Iight-ormored plane, although locking: in speed and maneuverability, has performed imir- acles in the new and dangerous missions brought about by the advent of amphibioush warfare. Kingfishers ore cotapulting from the decks of battleships 0nd cruisers into new roles for beyond the expectation of the original designers. When the full record of the Kingfishers'el I achievements are written, they will include: sub-hunting and attacking, bombing, strafing,- escorting convoys, operating reconnaissance missions, directing ship's gunfire, spotting eir- ports and enemy movement, carrying commu-: nicotion between ship and shore, Ionding'in' rough seals on rescue missions and in one in- stance being responsible for the surrender of enemy infontrymen by herding a group into the hands of our armed forces.
