III i if LT. lIOL. .IIIII W. IIPP, Jr., III MII OFFICER IN CHARGE, AVIATION CADET REGIMENT Lieutenant Colonel John W. Sapp returned from duty in the South Pacific to assume duties as Officer in Charge, Aviation Cadet Regiment in April I944. After graduating from the Naval Academy in I934, he reported for flight training at Pensacola, Florida, and won his wings in I937. Lieutenant Colonel Sapp served with the Marine Aircraft Wing in I937 at San Diego, California, in I94O, he assumed duties as a Flight Instructor at Miami, Florida. In I942, he was sent to the South Pacific with the second Torpedo Bombing Squadron to, be formed by the U. S. Marine Corps. They landed on Guadalcanal in February T943 and were in action at New Georgia Island and Bougainville. ' For outstanding service in the South Pacific, he was presented the Air Medal, Bronze Star Medal and campaign rpwedals for participating in several actions in the Solomons Area. iff' 'ir 'A' L'I'.xllIIMIIlII IIIIR G. S. STEPHEN IIIII EXECUTIVE OFFICER OF THE AVIATION CADET REGIMENT Lieutenant Commander George S. Stephenson assumed duties as Executive Officer of the Aviation Cadet Regiment in December I943. He has had various duties since first receiving his com- mission in the U. S. Naval Reserve in January l942, as a member of the first indoctrination class at Naval Air Station, Quonset Point, Rhode Island. Reporting aboard in April I942, he has served in the Fifth, Eighth and Ninth Battalions of the Cadet Regiment. Graduating from Princeton University in I925, he came into the Navy after sixteen years in the Bankingbusiness in New York City. CXR ,xi X . f ,fl IXAX Page 33

Mangrurn, former Officer in Charge, Aviation Cadet Regiment, is one of the-lvlarine Corps' outstanding fliers of this war. I Lieutenant Colonel Mangrum has seen years of active duty with the U. S. Marine Corps and is a veteran aviator, having won his wings at Pensacola in 1928. , His Dive Bombing Squadron based at Pearl Harbor onthat eventful day in Qecember l94i, was the first to land on Guadalcanal. For his outstanding service in the Pacific, he 'was presented with the Navy Cross and the Distinguished Flying Cross. Page 32

MILLER, UN ll lilll UHAPLAI After more than twenty-three years of distinguished service that involved the spiritual vveltare ot thousands ot Naval Personnel and their families, Captain T. C. Miller, USN, came to Corpus Christi as Senior Chaplain of the Naval Air Training Center. A Chaplain iviiller's enviable record includes service on board the USS Maryland, USS Frederick with assignments ashore on Guam, San Diego and the Hawaiian area. He was at Pearl Harbor vvhen the Japs attacked in December l94l. Page 34
