Ramsey assumed duties as Chief of the Bureau of Aeronautics, Navy Department, on August 6, 1943, following a tour of duty as commander ofa Task Force in the South Pacific. Rear Admiral Ramsey was appointed to the Naval Academy in 1908, and graduated in 1912. He served on board the USS New Jersey, USS Montana, USS Nashville, USS Tingey and in 1916 was assigned to duty at Pensacola, Florida, for flight training. He was designated Naval Aviator No. 45. . He has served on board USS Pennsylvania, USS Columbia, USS Wright, USS Langley, as instructor at Pensacola, in command of the training aviation squadron at the Naval Academy, Executive Officer of the USS Saratoga, head of Plans Division, Bureau of Aeronautics until August 1941 when he was assigned duty as Assistant Chief of the Bureau of Aero- nautics. Rear Admiral Ramsey has been awarded the Navy Cross For extraordinary heroism and distinguished service during occupation of Guadalcanal, Tulagi and the Battle of the Solomons . He also holds the Mexican Service Medal, Victory Medal, Overseas Clasp, American Defense Service Medal, Fleet Clasp, Asiatic-Pacific Area Campaign Medal, and the Decoration and Diploma Cammandeur del' Ordre Grand Bucae de la Couronne de Chene, from Luxemburg.

Following graduation, he spent three years with the Fleet before reporting for flight training at the Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Florida in 1914, Winning his wings in 1915, he was designated Naval Aviator No. 22. Rear Admiral Murray's impressive record includes service cis Aeronautical tvtaterial Inspector, first Commanding Cf. ficer of the Naval Air Station, Anacostia, D. C., service at San Diego Naval Air Station, Sauadran Cjgmmgndef with the Pacific and Asiatic Fleets, Senior Naval Aviator at Naval Academy, Assistant Aide to ft-,Q Qommonder in Chief, Battle Farce, in the Bureau of Aeronautics, Executive Officer of the USS Wright and Naval Attache in London, Paris, Berlin and the Hague. ln March 1941 he became Commanding Officer of the USS Enterprise, which ship was later cited by the President af the United States for its courageous efforts in the Pacific. Rear Admiral Murray was awarded the Navy Cross on May 29, 19-42 tor his Courage and resaarqefalnegs in saving his ship from serious damage while under heavy bombardment in enemy waters. The Distinguished Service Medal was presented to him on Moy 1, 1943, by Rear Admiral John S. tv'icCain, Chief at the Bureau of Aeronautics. He also holds the Vera Cruz Campaign Medal and the 1Norld Wcir Victory lvleclal with Bronze Star. Page 27
