On behalf of the people of this great nation, U. S. Naval Aviation, along with the other branches of Service, accepted the challenge and put forth their utmost efforts, to weld this nation into a mighty military unit. As a direct result of this challenge, immediate expansion of Naval Aviation Program was deemed necessary. ln June, 194O the Navy Department started to build, at Corpus Christi, Texas, what is now the largest Naval Air Training Center in the World. Commissioned in March of 1941, under the Command of Captain Alva D. Bernhard, USN, the Naval Air Training Center has expanded far beyond the plans of the original builders. It now consists of the Main Station and six Auxiliary Naval Air Stations, Rodd, Cabaniss, Cuddihy, Waldron, Chase and Kingsville. Each one of these Auxiliary Stations is an integral unit in itself, with complete facilities for training the fledgling flier in the many specialized fields that he must master. Since the first graduation in 1941, many young men, thoroughly trained as Naval and Marine Aviators, have passed through the gates of this vast Center, enroute to important assignments throughout the World.
