Prince, USNR, Commanding Offi- cer. llli0 8-C The cadet who chooses for his advanced training the Navy's land-based bombers, really learns the ins and outs of flying. In this squadron, the cadet learns the technique of handling the larger twin-engine planes of the Navy. Flying the Beech-craft with its two 450 HP engines teaches cadets the coordination required in the operation of two engines at the same time. l . . The syllabus in this squadron is divided into two stages, primary and advanced. ln primary, the student learns the fundamental stages of taxiing, take-offs, landings, air work, such as climbs, glides, and turns. Instrument flying is also given in this stage. Ground School gives its students a great deal of Celestial Navigation before cadets are per- mitted to make navigational flights. , L At the completion of the primary stage, the cadet proceeds into the advanced syllabus where he is given instruc- tions on high and low altitude bombing, and all types of navigational work. The use of radio is essential in these large planes whereupon completion of this course the student is a qualified radio operator. ' When commissioned, the Naval Flier goes to an operational base for further training in the specific type of service aircraft which he will fly in the service of the U. S. Navy.
