Wright, USNR Gunnery Officer. into The PBY Squadrons, considered the eyes of the Navy , give the-gadets their first opportunities to fly the big boats. The thrill of flying the rnulti-engine aircraft and the opportunity' to log valuable flying time is one of the privileges of cadets going through these squadrons. ' T' I The squadrons have divided their training syllabus into these different stages: Primary, Advanced and Group Flying. The Primary stage familiarizes the students with the bigiboats and teaches the technique of handling multi- engine aircraft. This includes many hours of instruction in take-offs, spirals, turns, glides, power and full stall landings. After successfully passing on instructor's check, cadets begin their training in the advanced syllabus. This consists of beach approaches, taxiing and precision landings. Finally, the cadets are grouped in flights and complete their Squadron 18-A Instructors at if if if if if if if
