This is also one of the six advanced squadrons to which o cadet may be sent when his instrument training has been completed. This unit is located at the Main Base and has the responsibility of training a squadron of the Navy's future pilots. The rigorous program includes the familiarization of the North American SNJ and practical application of previous novigotionol troining. Many flights are devoted to gunnery during which a cadet is taught methods of strafing, fixed gunnery, high speed gunnery, and gunnery runs on a target sleeve. Later, experience is gained by actual combat with other flyers with o cornero and film for ammunition. , Formation flying is o necessary form of flying in the last stages of training. lt is through formation flights that cadets learn to oct and think like part of a team. When an aviator has mastered formation flying, he has developed one of the fundamental combat requirements which is essential for a successful fighting unit teamwork, The day soon comes when the cadets hong up their parachutes for the last time at Fourteen B and prepare for their graduation. After completion of course, they are sent to on operation training base 'to acquire more hours of flying time in the Navy's newest fighting planes, before ioining the fleet. Many of the instructors, training cadets, are fighter pilots who have returned from the fleet. The experience which they have obtained under combat conditions, is extremely valuable for the instruction of cadets. Soon after the completion of the course at Kingsville, a cadet receives the wings of a Naval Aviator. He is commis- sioned and sent to an operational base where he accumulates many hours flying time in the specific type plane he is to fly with the fleet. With this last base behind him, a new and reacly Naval Aviator will join the fleet. Squadron 'l4C instructors. i . T
