CapTain Moore visiTed The ar- Tillery schools in England, I-Iolland and AusTria and was a sTudenT aT The German arTillery school aT JuTerborg during I908 and IQO9. ReTurning To The UniTed STaTes, CapTain Moore was senT To ForT Sill by The War DeparT- menT in November I9IO To make preliminary arrangemenTs Tor esTablishing The school. Soon aTTerward a board OT oTTicers, ,consisTing oT LieuTenanT Colonel D. J. Rumbough and CapTain Jesse Langdon, boTh oT The FirsT Field ArTilIery, and CapTain Moore, was appoinTed To TormuIaTe deTailed plans. The FirsT Field ArTillery, ordered To I-Iawaii, was replaced in March I9II by The FiTTh Field ArTiIIery and Colonel Rumborg was replaced on The board by Colonel I-Ienry M. Andrews. The board was dissolved in June I9II. General Orders Number 73, War DeparT- menT, June 5, I9I I, direcTed The. esTablishmenT aT ForT Sill The School oT Fire Tor Field Ar- TiIlery and anoTher order daTed July I9 desig- naTed CapTain Moore as commandanT. Cap- Tain Moore wlas succeeded as commandanT by Maior General Edward F. McGIachlin in Sep- Tember I9 I4. SGHUDL The TirsT class was held SepTember I5, I9I I, when I4 capTains and 22 non-commissioned oT- Ticers assembled as sTudenTs. WiTh The ouT- brealc oT World War I The school was expanded greaTIy and Thousands oT oTTicers received Their Training aT ForT Sill. The name was changed To The Field ArTiIIery School in April I9I9. During World War II Thousands more Tield arTillery oTTicers and enIisTed men have aTTended courses aT The Field ArTilIery School. OTTicers Trom several Toreign counTries also have been senT To The school. I-IeadguarTers oT The Field ArTiIIery School is IocaTed in McNiair I-Iall, which was named Tor The IaTe LieuTenanT General Lesley J. -McNair, commanding general oT Army Ground Forces, who was Icilled by a bomb in France in July I944. Major General Louis E. I-Iibbs, who com- manded The 63d lnTanTry IBlood -and Firel di- vision in The deTeaT oT Germany, is The presenT commandanT oT The Field ArTilIery School, hav- ing succeeded -Mfaior General Ralph McT. Pen- nell on AugusT 30, I945. OTher commandanTs, in addiTion To CapTain Moore, General McGIachlin, General Pennell and General I-Iibbs, have been Maier General William J.
