The COMBAT INFANTRYMAN BADGE .mg--Z Proudly worn by combat infantrymen since the outbreak of World War ll, the Combat Infantryman Badge is authorized to be awarded to officers or en- listed men, or warrant officers with an infantry MOS, who have, subsequent to 6 December 1941, satisfactorily performed duty while assigned or attached as a member of an infantry unit of regirnental or smaller size during any period such unit was engaged in active ground combat. Awards of this badge cannot be made to general officers or to members of headquarters or headquarters com- panies of units larger in size than regirnents. Battle participation credit alone is not sufficient: the unit must have been in active ground combat with the enemy during the Period. One Combat Infantryman Badge is author ized to be awarded to each in- dividual for each separate wa-r in which the prescribed requirements have been met. The first award of the badge is a polished rnusket on a rectangular blue background seven-sixteenths of an inch in height and three inches in length in front of an oak wreath of oxidized silver. Each silver star, centered at the top of the badge between the points of the oak wreath, indicates an additional award of the badge. '
