MAJOR GENERAL DANIEL R. SCHROEDER General Dan Schroeder was born in New York City on 13 March 1938. He began his military service as an enlisted man in the United States Navy. Upon graduation from the United States Na val Academ y in I 961 with a Bachelor ofScience degree in Engineering, he was commissioned a second lieutenant in the United States Army Corps of Engineers. He holds a Master of Science degree in S ystems Management from the Air Force Insti- tute of Technology. General Schroeder is a graduate of the United States Marine Corps Amphibious Warfare School, the Armed Forces Staff College, and the United States Arm y War College. His first assignment was with the 307th Engineer Battalion, 82d Airborne Division, where he served as a pIa toon leader, a staff officer, and as the commander of the 618th Engineer Company Light Equipment, Airborne. Su bsequent assignments include ser- vice with the Ist and 5th Special Forces Groups; the 101st Air- borne Division; the United States Military Academy; the 8th Infantry Division; Headquarters, United States Arm y Europe; Commander, 307th Engineer Ba ttaIion, 82d Airborne Division; 6 United S ta tes Readiness Command; Commander of the 20th En- gineer Briga de t Com ba t i tAirbome Corpsk Chief of S taff of the 24th Infantry Division tMechanizch; Deput y Assistant Chiefof Engineers, United States Army. General Schroeder was Chief ofStaff, X VIII Airborne Corps and Fort Bragg prior to his pres- ent assignment as Commandant, U.S. Arm y Engineer School and Commanding General, US. Arm y Training Center Engineer and Fort Leonard Wood. His awards and decora tions include the Legion ofMerit t with Oak Leaf Clusted; the Distinguished Flying Cross; the Bronze Star withthh Device t with four Oak Leaf Clustersi; six Air Medals with W? the Meritorious Service Medal t with Oak Leaf Cluster; the Joint Services Commenda tion Medal; the Arm y Commenda tion Medal t with four Oak Leaf Clustersi, the Com- bat Infantryman Badge, the Master Parachutist Badge, and the Special Forces Tab. He is the husband of the former Karen Lund of Northport, New York. They have four da ughters: Mrs. Lauren KirkendaII, Mrs. Kristine Dewar, Karen, and Dana Lis.
