I ,I yi ll,,Vil'lll.,l.,,: IH, ll BRIGADIER GENERAL ROBERT HALDANE DEPUTY COMMANDING GENERAL General Haldane served as an enlisted man in the Army Air Corps early in World War ll. In 1944 he entered the U.S. Military Academy and gradu- ated in 1947. He was a platoon leader and later a company commander in the 1st Infantry Division in Germany until 1952 when he joined the 3rd Infantry Regiment at Fort Myer, Va. During the fifties General Haldane saw service at Fort Benning, in Korea, at West Point and at Fort Leavenworth. In 1965 he took command of a battalion ofthe 1st Infantry Division at Fort Ri- ley, Kansas. He took that unit to Viet Nam and later assumed command of the 3rd Brigade ot the 1st Division. ln September 1969 General Haldane returned to West Point and in July 1970 he was assigned to Fort Dix as Deputy Commander. I congratulate you for this achievement. You have taken the first step toward becoming the well-trained, high- ly skilled soldier so essential to our modern Army. Our mission at Fort Dix is to provide you the fundamentals you will require in your future military service to accomplish your assigned tasks. Your success to date indicates that you have the desire and determination to become a soldier upon whom your loved ones can depend to protect the freedoms which we cherish and for which we have fought since the founding of our country. As you continue your military service, always be mindful of your responsibilities to your country, your fellow Americans and to yourself. Carry out your duties with pride and dignity. In this way you will do your part to help keep our great country free and proud for you are the Ultimate Weapon.
