ATTer This acTion he Took over a CombaT command oT The 7Th Armored Division and soon was given his own division, The 8Th Armored. l le remained in command oT The Thundering Herd unTil vicTory in Europe. ln l946, he organized The Universal MiliTary Training Program aT ForT Knox. The General's decoraTions include The DisTinguished Service Medal, Legion oT lvleriT, Silver STar. Bronze STar, French Legion oT I-Ionor and Croix de Guerre, and several DuTch and Czechoslovalcian awards.

He is also a graduaTe OT The Troop oTTicer's course aT The Cavalry School and The Com- mand and General STaTT course. WiTh The OrganizaTiOn OT The Armored Force, U. S. Army, in July, 1940, General Barriger was deTailed TO General STaTT duTy and assisTed in The OrganizaTiOn OT The IsT Armored Division, laTer becoming AssisTanT ChieT OT STaTT, G-4, Tor The Armored Force, FT.
