Af fhis fime fhe Division was commanded by Maior General Jack W. Heard. From Augusf fo Ocfober l942 fhe 5'I'h was acfively engaged in fhe maneuvers in fhe Deserf Training Cenfer Area. ln February I943, Major General Lunsford E. Olivei' assumed command.
