ALLGAIR MAJOI1 COMMANDING, 325th ENGINEER COMBAT BATTALION Major John Andrew Allgair was born in Somerville, New Jersey, on August 29, 1914 and was grqdum- d U ' 't in 1936 with a Master's Degree in Civil Engineering. After serving with the 28th Ii from Rutgers niversi y fantry for a year at Fort Niagara, he assumed an engineering assignment with the Standard Oil Company of Ne . w Jersey and spent a month in Venezuela, South America. b 20 1937 he was commissioned Second Lieutenant and assigned to the 11th Engineers of On Septem er , , Fort Clayton, Canal Zone. In July, 1940, he was transferred to the 1st Engineers at Fort Dupont and in S8 - tember, 1940, was promoted to First Lieutenant. An assignment to the Engineer Replacement Center at Ft-if Belvoir followed, and in August, 1941, he was sent to the 85th Heavy Pontoon Battalion. In September 1941 he was promoted to Captain. ' ' 1942 he was transferred to the Engineer Unit Training Center at Camp Claiborne La and on ln April, , September 26, 1942, he was promoted to Major. On February 20, 1944, he was assigned to the 100th Division whore he assumed command ot thc 325th Engineer Combat Battalion.
