He was graduated from West ' ' S nd Lieutenant of Field Artillery. Point in l94O and commissioned a eco A 'll Battalion of the 2nd Division he was later transferred to the 47th Field Artillery Assigned first to the l5th Field rt: ery , Ma 1941 In October l94l he was promoted to First Lieutenant, and in February, I942, after Regiment at Fort Bragg in y, . , I ied the 47th Field Artillery Battalion to Fort Sill, where he was promoted to Captain his regiment was broken up, he accompan d 'n the same month. He graduated from the Division Artillery Staff and Command Course in September, 1942. uri g In October, I942, he joined the l0Oth Division as executive officer of the 375th Field Artillery Battalion, and in No- vember, i942, he was promoted to Major.
