HOLT coLoNEL EXECUTIVE OFFICER 'I00th DIVISION ARTILLERY Colonel Henry Winston Holt was born in Staunton, Virginia, on July 4, l896, and attended the Virginia Military Institute until he received an appointment to the United States Military Academy. Upon his gradua- tion from West Point in l9l8, he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant of Field Artillery and assigned to the l6th Division. After the Armistice of World War I, he was sent to Coblenz, Germany, as part of the Army of Occupation, and on August 22, l9l9, was promoted to First Lieutenant. Upon returning to the United States he had two ROTC details at the Virginia Military Institute and the University of Chicago, and later joined the faculty of the United States Military Academy. He was assigned to the llth Field Artillery in Hawaii and then returned to join the 7th Cavalry Brigade, Mechanized. On August I, I933, he was promoted to Captain. Assignments with the lst and 4th Armored Divi- sions followed, and he later was transferred to the Armored Force School, where he served as an instructor in tactics. On April l8, l940, he was promoted to Major and went on to serve on the Field Artillery Board. On August 2l, I942, he was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel, and in October, I942, he was assigned to the lOOth Division as executive officer of Division Artillery. He was promoted to Colonel on November 30, I942.
