399th I FA TRY REGINIE T ANDREW C. TYCH Ei 0oL0NEL COMMANDING, 399th INFANTRY REGIMENT Colonel Andrew Christian Tychsen was born in Haddon Field, New Jersey, June 27, 1893, but moved with his family to St. Paul, Minnesota. He began his military career at ll, when he joined the St. Paul's Boy Brigade, rising to Corporal at 13. After attending the University of Minnesota, in April 1914 he joined the Minnesota National Guard. He served on the Mexican border as a First Sergeant in Company A of the First Minnesota Infantry, in 1916. A year later he was a Captain, commanding the 339th machine-gun battalion, of the 88th Division. In July, 1918, he arrived in France with his unit, and returned to this country in the summer of 1919. With the end of WorldgWar I, he remained in the Army as a Regular Army officer. Between 1927 and 1932, he attended St. Paul s Military Academy, leaving in 1932 to command Company K of the 27th Division in Hawaii. Promoted to Major in 1935, he attended Command and General Staff School and was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in 1940. In December, 1941, he took over command of the 6th Infantry Regiment at Fort McLellan, Alabama, and was promoted to Colonel. He has commanded the 399th infantry Regiment since acti- vation of the 100th Division. -
