AT The beginning of I950 The l0Th. along wiTh The resT of The division, compleTed individual Training and progressed To a-dvanced uniT and combined Training in coordinaTion wiTh The mission of providing demonsTraTions Tor The lnTanTry School. ln February i950 a new Training phase was iniTiaTed when The division moved To LiTTle Creek, Virginia, Tor orienTaTion on am- phibious operaTions, Upon compleTion oT The Training assignmenT, The l0Th Engineer BaT- Talion embarked aboard ship Tor Vieques Island in The Carribbean where iT Took parT in OperaTion PORTREX, The mosT exTen- sive ioinT amphibious maneuver ever under- Taken by The U. S. in peaceTime. ReTurning To ForT Benning in laTe March and early April, elemenTs of The l0Th were included as Aggressor uniTs To parTicipaTe in Exercise SWARMERH aT ForT Bragg, NorTh Carolina. ExpecTaTions Thai' The 3d, being combaT ready, would be called To The Far EasT im- mediaTely aTTer The Korean Police AcTion began in laTe June l950, were noT Tulfilled. lnsTea-d of going To TighT, The division was drained oT iTs personnel in July, These men being Transferred and used as Training cadre in oTher uniTs. BuT in AugusT oT I950 orders did come down Tor The 3d To move To The Far EasT. ReorganizaTion began and Troops began filling The many vacancies. By 2 SepTember The division, sTill undermanned, saile-d Trom Camp SToneman, California. While The greaTer parT oT The division landed aT Moii-Japanese porT on The Sc-uThern island of Kyusu-The 65Th RegimenT, along wiTh Company C of The lOTh Engineers and cerTain arTillery uniTs Torminq The 65Th RCT, landed aT Pusan and parTicipaTed in The breakouT Trom The Pusan PerimeTer. On 9 November The l0Th Engi- neers wiTh The resT oT The division moved To Korea, having spenT a monTh Training The ROKA Troops ThaT Tilled The almosf 7000 vacan- cies in The division. , The IOTh was ciTe-d Tor excepTionally meriTorious conducT in The periormance oT ouTsTanding service in supporT of combaT opera- Tions in Korea Trom The lsT oT December l95O To 3l July l95I. During This period The IOTh, working under The mosT adverse cir- cumsTances, perTormed every phase oT iTs diverse duTies wiTh un- surpassed excellence. DespiTe The conTinual movemenT oi The division and The wide dispersion of iTs TronT-line uniTs, The ba'i'Talion consisTenTly rendered close and eTTecTive logisTical supporT. ln iTs combaT operaTions The baTTalion was equally proTicienT, lTs supplemenTaTion of The divi- sion's deTensive lines during The evacuaTion of Hungnam and The subsequenT sTraTegic desTrucTion oT ThaT ciTy proved oT maTerial as- sisTance To The division in accomplishing iTs mission. The superior abiliTy displayed by The men oT The baTTalion in TaciliTaTing The crossing oT The Han, lmiin and HanTan Rivers, in laying and re- moving mines and in The erecTion oT various obsTacles calculaTed To slow The enemy earned Them The respecT and admiraTion of all Those To whom They rendered service. The l0Th Engineers displayed such ouTsTanding devoTion To duTy and periormed iTs excepTionally d'iTTiculT Tasks in such a manner as To sei' iT apari and above oTher uniTs wiTh a similar mission. The skill, resourceiulness and indomiT- Engineers oTTen assumed The role oT combaT soldiers and used every means available To proTecT Their work. Small boaTs, used by Troops To cross and To paTrol The mouTh of The Rhine river, were equipped wiTh Two .50 caliber machine guns. able espriT de corps exhibiTed by The members oT This baTTalion reTlecT greaT crediT on Themselves, The Corps of Engineers and The miliTary service oT The UniTed STaTes. The l0Th, along wiTh The enTire 3d Division, remained in Korea aTTer The Korean Truce unTil laTe November i954 when a small group oT The 3d's personnel escorTed The colors back To The UniTed STaTos. Then on 2 December i954 The personnel oT The 47Th Div'sion were assigned To The redesignaTed 3d lnTanTry Division. WiTh This change The personnel oT The 682nd Engineer BaTTalion became mem- ber, November and December I955. The 3d Division has been again became The home of The l0Th. Since coming back To The sTaTes, The baTTalion, wiTh The division, has parTicipa'l'ed in Two raTher exTensive exercises- Exercise FOL- LOW ME in February l955 and Exercise SAGE BRUSH in Ocio- ber, November and December I955. The 3rd Division has been Training and Tield-TesTing many new ,concepTs oT warfare Tor The nuclear age. Many diTTiculTies have arisen buT The lOTh and The division have and will conTinue To meeT and overcome all such problems.
