INSTRUCTOR STATISTICS il r X s---, What is it like to be an instructor? What do they Q think about various points of interest? What interest- ' ing facets of personality are hidden behind the , S professional mask? ln an effort to answer these and . x other even more fascinating questions the editors i K submitted a questionnaire to each instructor. The ' following information was obtained. Some of the attitudes which we have noticed from the recesses of the classroom may well stem from lsgzuzrfks frustration. Only a little over half of the instructors ELSLCETQZ teach their favorite subiects. Although ninety percent of those queried indicated that they considered teach- ing the most interesting part of their work, only about a fourth of them said they liked teaching more than any other aspect of their job. When asked what they liked least, most of them indicated writing or reviewing field manuals or new instruction, time-con- suming administrative details, and miscellaneous paper work. Several gave answers describing what they considered unnecessary interferences with their teaching mission. Not all of the instructors are completely frustrated, however, as indicated by their indications as to what they liked most about their present assignments. The most popular feature of the instructor's job, as it can best be synthesized from the comments of a third of them, is the opportunity for rewarding and pleasant personal and professional con- tacts and associations with their military contemporaries. The remaining group of instructors provided a multitude of answers rang- ing from a frank opinion and impatience with ,archaic pedantry to a sense of humor and experience in my field. Probably the most definite and uncontestable answer received was the shortest- me, Three of the platform men felt that their most significant contributions were those which they had made to the United Fund Drive. One man referred to his glowing personality, while another lamented his departed 2Of2O vision.
