Student Statistics Four hundred and ninety-four of the class responded more or less completely to the questionnaire. That's why none of the statistics add up to nice round numbers. Let's look at some of them, however, in the order in which the questions were asked. The average age of the class is thirty-five years, nine months and eighteen days. This includes three young- sters of twenty-nine and one old codger of forty-eight. The average height is five feet eleven inches and the average weight is one hundred and sixty-nine pounds. Four hundred and forty-six students report having gained weight since being commissioned in amounts from five pounds ffifty-nine menj to sixty pounds Cfivel, for an average of thirteen pounds per man reporting. Only two hundred and sixty-four men report a gain around the waistline. Eleven of these report as much as six inches gain and one man reports nine. The average is 2.52 inches added per man reporting. Twenty-two men report losing weight in amounts from five to thirty pounds, for an average loss of twelve pounds per man. One man reports a gain of ten pounds, a loss of twenty five pounds, and a gain of four inches around his waist. Although there is probably some wishful thinking in- volved, forty percent of the questionnaires report no gray hair and fifty-three percent report no loss of hair. Forty-nine percent report some gray hair and eleven percent state a lot of gray has invaded their locks. Fifty-two men report they are balding, fifty-five report they are losing a lot of hair, and four honest stalwarts, after ruefully examining the gleaming wastes in the mirror, report they are bald. There were fourteen bachelors out of the four hundred and ninety-four responses. Four hundred and fifty-four married couples with children have begotten five hundred and ninety-five boys and five hundred and thirty-one girls, which works out to an average of two and a half kids per family. This includes one couple with eight girls and two boys, one with four boys and three girls, and five families with six children each. Babies are expected by four of the twenty-six childless couples and by forty of the couples who now have children. Twenty-five babies have arrived since the start of the course. We own one hundred and seventy-six dogs, thirty- three cats and twenty horses CThe last figures deserves study in view of the fact that only four people reported riding as their favorite sport or hobbyl. Eleven affluent couples own two television sets, one man owns three Cmore about him laterl and fifty-seven higher minds don't own a TV. The favorite car of the class is the fifty-six Ford four-door sedan. Buick runs a close second fninety-four to eighty-sevenj, and the station wagon owners num- ber one hundred and forty-two compared to the two hundred and thirty who drive the four-door jobs. Seventeen sports have convertibles and seven are driv- ing foreign cars. Chevrolet is third in popularity, Pontiac fourth, Oldsmobile fifth, Plymouth sixth, and Mercury seventh. Three couples own fifty-seven models, one hundred and sixty-seven own fifty-sixes, ninety- four have fifty-fives and so on down the line. There are nine two-car families in the class, including one which owns two identical sedans Cno arguments in that familyj. One hundred and eighty-six votes make golf the favorite sport of the class. Bowling is chosen by seventy- two and forty prefer volleyball. From then on the CContinued on page T401
