He entered the United States Navy May 25, 1978 and completed initial training at Re- cruit Training Center, Orlando, FL and radioman MA school at SSC,San Diego, Calif. Selected as a Chief Petty Officer in September 1987, Master Chief Held has served in numerous sea and shore commands during his career. His initial sea tour was on USS ENTER- PRISE I C VN 65j. Follow on sea tours include USS KITTYHAWK ICV 63j, USS MISSOURI IBB 63j and ,USS INGERSOLL IDD 990j. ' Master Chief Held served ashore at U. V S. Naval F acility Adak, Alaska, Naval Communica- tions Station Harold E. Holt, Exmouth, Western Australia, Naval Communications Area Master Station, Guam, Naval Recruiting District Ohio, and most recently assigned as Lead Instructor, Leadership Training Continuum, Great Lakes, IL. Master Chief Held was awarded the Navy!
