Air Wing EIGHT Commander, Carrier Captain Charles W. Moore, Ir. 7 Februar 1989 to Iune 1993 Captain Charles W. Moore, 1r., was born on May 24, 1946 in Midland, Texas. A presidential appointee to the United States Naval Academy, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Aerospace Engi- neering and was commis- sioned an Ensign in the United States Navy on 1une 5, 1968. Captain Moore was designated a Naval Aviator in September 1969. 'In Iuly, 1970, after six months of training in the A- 7E Corsair II, he joined the Blue Diamonds of Attack Squadron 146. He made two combat deployments to the Western Pacific embarked on USS AMERICA ICV 661 and USS CONSTELLATION ICV 641, flying over 200 combat missions. In October 1972, Ca tain Moore joined the HelI,Razors of Attack Squadron 174 as an instruc- tor pilot. Transferring in March 1975, he reported aboard USS IOHN F. KEN- NEDY ICV 671 as Assistant Strike Operations Officer. During t is tour, Captain Moore earned his Surface Warfare Officer designation. In August 1979, after a tour on the staff of Com- mander, Light Attack Wing One, Captain Moore report- ed to the Rampagers of Attack Squadron 83, em- barking on USS FORRES- TAL ICV 591 for two Med- iterranean deployments. In May 1982, following command selection, Captain Moore once again reported to Commander, Light Attack Wing 1 at NAS Cecil Field, Florida awaiting FXA-18 transition. In October 1983, Captain Moore reported to the newly established Wildcats of Strike Fighter Squadron 131 as the Exec- utive Officer. He assumed command on December 2, 1985 embarked on USS USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT CORAL SEA KCV 431 during the squadron's first Medi- terranean deployment and led the Wildcats into com- bat during operations in the vicinity of Libya and the strike on Denina Airfield, Benghazi, Libya. He re- ceived the Vice Admiral Iames Bond Stockdale Award for Inspirational Leadership for his tour as Commanding Officer of Strike Fighter Squadron 131. Following graduation from the Naval War College, Captain Moore reported to Carrier Air Wing EIGHT in February 1989 as the Dep- uty Commander, complet- ing a Mediterranean deploy- ment embarked on USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT CCVN 711 and the initial shakedown of USS ABRA- HAM LINCOLN ICVN 721. Captain Moore holds a Mas- ter of Arts Degree in Inter- national Relations from Salve Regina University and a Master of Arts in Strategic Policy from the U.S. Naval War College. His awards in- clude the Meritorious Ser- vice Medal, three Air Med- als, seventeen Strike f Flight Air Medals, four Navy Com- mendation Medals with Combat V , the Presiden- tial Unit Citation, Vietnam Service and Campaign Med- als, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry and various other unit and campaign decora- tions. Captain Moore has flown over 4,800 flight hours and log ed over 900 carrier arrested landings. Captain Moore is married to the former Lydia Perone Clado of Manila, Philip- pines.
