Martin, a native of Alexandria, Wrginia, graduated from the University of Mississippi with a B. S. in Geological Engineering. Commis- sioned in 1983, he reported to flight school in Pensacola, received designa- tion as a Naval Aviator: and was ordered to HSL-41 for fleet replacement pilot training in the SH-60B. In 1986 he re- ported to HSL-42 as Training Officer and Maintenance Officen followed by instructor duty at HSL-40. In 1991 he reported aboard USS OKINAWA ll-PH-31 flying the UH-IN and serving as Aircraft Handling Officer and as Mini Boss. ln 1992 he reported to the staff of Commandeh Training Command, US Pacific Fleet where he served as Flag Lieutenant. He next reported to HSL-46 where he served as Aircrafi Mainte- nance Officer He currently serves os OIC ofHSL-46 Det 9. LCDR Martin has been awarded two Navy Commendation Medals and three Navy Achievement Medals. He is married to the former Theodosia Donelson of Clarksdale, Mis- sissippi. With the remainder of the battle group still recovering from a hurricane in Norfolk, MONTEREY was tasked to proceed independently at best speed across the Atlantic Ocean to assume the duties as Red Crown in the Adriatic Sea. Dodging five other major storms, MONTEREY made it through some vetjw rough seas and then spent eight hours refueling in Ponta Delgada.
