Iames F. Rinehart, M.D.. is a graduate of the University of California Medical School in 1927, and now holds the posi- tion of Associate Professor of Pathology and Medicine in the Medical School and Visiting Pathologist at the University Hospital. Except for a short period, l93U- l93l, when he was a Littauer Research Fellow, Harvard Cancer Commission, at the Thorndike Memorial Laboratory in Boston, Massachusetts, he has been af- filiated with the Medical Shcool as pathologist, teacher and research inves- tigator. His research has had to do with leukemias, lymphosarcomas and allied conditions: and during the past few years with rheumatic fever and rheuma- toid arthritis. He is well known for his work with vitamin C and its effect in certain rheumatic diseases. Doctor Ernest Linwood Walker: Pro- fessor of Tropical Medicine in the Hooper Foundation since 1914, received his degrees from Harvard University. Scientific investigations were conducted by him at Harvard, in the Philippines and in South America. Among his Con- tributions to science have been studies in amoebic dysentery, malarial trans- mission, chemotherapy of bacterial in- fections, etiology and endemiology of leprosy, chemotherapeutics of chaul- moogra oil, and he is now investigating the field of malignant neoplasms, wt it .. A Carl L. A. Schmidt. Ph.D., Dean of the College of Pharmacy and Chairman of the Division of Biochemistry, is a grad- uate of the University of California and has served on its faculty since l915. Dr. Schmidt is well recognized for his studies in the amino acids, proteins, bile function and the fat soluble vitamins. He is a member of the Board of Editors of the Annual Review of Biochemistry, and Editor of a comprehensive treatise on The Chemistry of the Amino Acids and Proteins. X. S g '7-,I A . -.A.TiL

.f1i'- 2 E- V1 I I l , bskgggz + ng ...se T. :Wifi mai -1 'T if 'Li- 4 T -ffm THE CALIFORNIA CLUB The San Francisco Chapter of the California Club was organized during the fall semester of 1939, chartered by President Sproul, and dedicated to the creation of the spirit of unity and mutual helpfulness among the Seven Campuses of the University. It is composed of three members from each of the four schools at the Medical Center and Hastings College of Lawy fifteen representatives in all. A successful dance sponsored by the Cali- fornia Club was held in the fall semester at the Fairmont Hotel, and was attended by stu- dents from all of the San Francisco Campuses. The activities of the Club have done much to erase long-standing misconceptions which have existed between the various Schools. The most ambitious project to emerge from the organization is the 1940 MEDICAL CEN- TER.
