WHAT do you want to do this weekend. ' The tradition of Homecoming took root and flourished as students flocked to the festivities and the Bruins stepped all over the Arizona Sun Devils. Preparations began for the upcoming cross-town rivalry and a chance to unseat 2 USC, and Tommy the Trojan went up in flames again and again. Athletic demonstrations aside, UCLA was teeming with important events and performances. Sneak peeks put on by Campus Events brought directors and stars onto campus, giving students a chance to rub elbows with celebrities in informal Q .A sessions. Those wanting to exhibit their own talents often found themselves performing at Spring Sing, a university-wide talent show peppered with celebrity cameo appearances. Simply put, there were events for everyone. Whether you wanted to talk to Kevin Spacev, watch N GGER WTBACK CH NK, attend a career fair, or go to the Indian Student Union banquet, you could do it all and more. campus events cultural student group events beat ' sc week sc game student alumni association student committee for the arts career center ic festival of boob

From the minute students moved on campus, a variety of events filled their schedules. The Back to School Night concert, held during week zero, featured rock bands Zion I and Bad Religion and was open exclusively to UCLA students. Soon afterwards, popular films such as, The Italian Job, Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, Matrix Reloaded and Old School were screened throughout various locations on campus to provide an opportunity for students to let their hair down one last time before lectures, essays and exams became a mainstay in students ' lives. The Campus Events Commission, a subsidiary of the Undergraduate Students Association Council, was the mastermind behind the films, concerts and speakers that enriched the social lives of the students. The commission itself was divided into six separate sub-committees of 10 to 15 people, each responsible for a different discipline that helped the commission to attain its main goal of trying to create events that all students would attend and enjoy as stated by Campus Events Commissioner Jason Gaulton. The sub-committee focusing on films was responsible for the free sneaks and $2 films, which provided students with inexpensive outings right in their backyard. Each member of the film sub- committee was a liaison to a specific studio and was responsible for trying to bring a film to campus for student feedback. First year marine biology student Christal Thavincher commented, Free sneaks were a good idea because I got to see movies that hadn ' t even been released yet, and I like the fact that I didn ' t have to pay eight bucks to see it. The $2 films, played at different times throughout the year in the Ackerman Grand Ballroom provided a flashback to the sunny and relaxing days of the past summer. Movies such as Pirates of the Caribbean, Finding Nemo and Charlie ' s Angles: Full Throttle were largely enjoyed and appreciated. The Campus Events Commission worked diligently to create not only a fun environment for students but also provided another way to bring the campus together. by Ellen Rark Amid an array of glowing lights, Daniel Au passionately sings and strums his guitar at Kerckhoff Coffee House.
