ruins Get Around CO r-t- c a 0) ■ ONE BIG PARKING LOT UCLA was considered the concrete campus by many who instantly thought of parking lots when they thought of the UCLA campus. Students, especially commuters, were on the never- ending quest for on campus parking. The permits were hard to come by, not to mention expensive when students were lucky enough to get one through the lottery. ■ WATCH OUT FOR THE BIKE POLICE Even though bikes were not the ideal mode of transportation on the UCLA hilly campus and through the mess of busy L.A. traffic, they were popular among Bruins. If Bruins could make it to the beach in one piece the beach bike path was a great way to relax on the weekend and enjoy the luxuries of going to school in southern Cal. ■ SKATE OR DIE Skateboards were supposed to be a flash in the pan of the mid- ' 80s, but many Bruins held onto their skateboards as easy transportation around campus. The total California fad was sure to be found on the total southern California campus. ■ SCOOTERS, SCOOTERS AND MORE SCOOTERS...Forthose students who could notpaytheterriblyhigh parking permits or who did not want to endure the hike up to Hedrick, scooters were the perfect solution. These activists held the opinion that animals should not be sacrificed for scientific experiments. Their main goal was to stop UCLA professors from using animals for scientific research. This demonstration was one of several techniques the protesters engaged in to put a stop to vivisection. ■ ITS RAINING, ITS POURING Protesters demonstrate in front of the Mitsubishi Building last fall to discourage the company ' s involvement in destroying rain forests. More and more frequently as we advanced into the ' 90s the UCLA community was aware of, if not involved in, more big business boycotts. UCLA students also put pressure on large companies and corporations to be aware of and respond to consumer concerns. AN ACRE NOTREES 30 Protests
