It gave me the opportunity to participate in food fairs, dance in cultural celebration in Ackerman Grand Ballroom and even have a Lithuanian Students float in the Homecoming Parade. My culture is the most important aspect of my life. I have used UCLA as a backdrop to demonstrate my belief in my people. I know I am a minority on campus; people either don ' t know about the issues facing Lithuania or they just don ' t care. I do care, and I have made my goal to be a voice of my people in the United States. UCLA has helped me to be this voice. Because of the diverse community on campus I have been able to show off my diversity. It gave me the opportunity to participate in food fairs, dance in cultural celebration in Ackerman Grand Ballroom and even have a Lithuanian Students float in the Homecoming Parade. I was born in America, but my parents are Lithuanian. Last year I was elated when Lithuania re-declared her independence. To me, this was the fulfillment of one of my greates dreams. I decided to do whatever I could to help Lithuania regain her freedom. I have always boosted the Lithuanian name from educating my sorority sisters on the issues, to participationg in Lithuanian folkdance. These and many other experiences at UCLA have given me the strength to attain my goal. Building on the secure foundation my sorority has provided me and ususing the tools I learned at UCLA I have been able to help Lithuania. Before coming to UCLA I probably would have never have been as outspoken as I am know, but my sorority. Delta Delta Delta, has given me the support and friendship I have needed to stand up for my beliefs. I recently met President Bush and told him that the people of Lithuania need his support in their stuggle for democracy. UCLA has taught me to have pride in my diversity and to take an active role in my culture. My involvement won ' t stop with graduation. This summmer I plan to attend the Lithuanian Youth Congress in South America. After this trip I will travel to Lithuania to teach English. I look forward to being a part of liberation first hand.
