The events leading up to graduation were exciting for all the seniors. These events included a lunch at Victoria Station. an awards assembly, and a trip to Sky Ranch for a day. They were accompanied by M rs. Bridges and Mrs. Loden, the senior class sponsors. The prom was given by the .lunior class and the senior wills and prophecies were read. On May l7, Baccalaureate was held at Wheatland United Methodist Church. Reverend Richard Flach was the speaker. GRADUATION May 2l was set as the day for the Class of '81 to graduate. Spirits were high as the nineteen Seniors lxiled into the sanctuary of Tyler Street United Methodist Church. Inspiring speeches were delivered by Tammy Brown, the valedictorian, and John Zabel. the salutatorian. Then the Solid Rock Band played a song of praise. The Commencement address was given by Reverend Terry Tekyl, pastor of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in College Station. The moment everyone was waiting for linally arrived as the happy seniors received their diplomas from Dr. Paul l.. Morrel and Mr. Bart Huemmcr. 89

Many groups from T.S.C.A. spent a week of the '81 summer dedicated to improving their skills for the new school year. Each of the Tyler Street Cheerleading Squads attended summer camp. All squads were judged on their stunts, gymnastics, cooperation and the methods that were used. Both varsity squads were equal in bringing home six superior ribbons, and three spirit sticks. The Fantastic Junior High squad attended Dallas Baptist College, and won second place overall. Members of the girls basketball team attended the Texas A8LM basketball camp this summer. LouAnn Bennett won second place in free throw and first as most improved defense players. Joanna Flach won second place in rebounding, while sophomore Annie Hunt won second place in defense. SUMMER OF '81 Jamie Huemmer, a sophomore, also attended this camp. Kendrick Curry was the only boy from Tler Street to attend the basketball camp at ORU University. He went to improve his defensive skills and to become a better player mentally and physically. The Yearbook staff attended a Journalism workshop at Texas AXLM University. They won second place int highest category, Yearbook of Distinction. There were forty-one other schools from all around Texas who also competed for honors. 90
