On Saturday February 20, 1982, at l:00 p.m., the Varsity guys and girls, cheerleaders, fans, moms, and dads headed to Stephenville for the 1982 TAPS Regionals basketball game. Minutes before the tip off, the butterflies started. The guys ran onto the court, the fans roared, the cheerleaders cheered jump balljump ball . . .andthe game had started. REGIONAL PLAYOFFS In the first halfthe Crusaders were domineering and maintained a lead. Minutes into the third quarter Abilene took control, and it seemed there was no stopping them. Because of Abilencls determination to advance for state the Crusaders left Stephenville without capturing the State Regional title. The score Abilene 65, TSCA 51. Then it was the girls turn. They ran out onto the court with high hopes, only to soon realize that Abilene was tougher than expected. They knew the battle had just begun. The first halfthey gave a good fight and were neck and neck. Approaching the third quarter Abilene took a lead not to be caught. They finally walked off the court with the State Regional title, Abilene 57, TSCA 45.

The mighty Crusaders had many growing experiences at the beginning of the season with some tough competition. From the beginning to the end were thrills, close-calls, runaways, and some good tough ball games. District this year was a cake walk. The Crusaders were overwhelming district champs with a record of 12-0. CRUSADER CAGERS The Champs went on to win first place in the district tourney. Kelly Reed was awarded Most Valuable Player and Aaron Day was awarded All Tourney Player. The fighting Crusaders, led by P. C1 Edwards, finished the season with a record of 19-9. We give a special thanks to P.C. for being not only a dedicated coach, but also a friend who is admired and loved. LM .ff N,
