Students at Homecoming festivities crowded the streets of downtown Tyler to be part of the excitement of a parade that stretched for blocks. A crowd amassed on the downtown square as Homecoming Queen nominees and their escorts were presented by Student Senate President Wally Brewster. The drama department representatives rode in the luxury of a Rolls Royce to advertise their first production of the year, God's Favorite. That evening TIC met with traditional rival Kilgore College in the classic Homecoming game. The Apaches took a 26-7 revenge to mark the first time TIC has beaten Kilgore since 1976. The victory made the Apaches the leading team in the conference. Delta Upsilon Homecoming nominee Wende Lancaster was crowned Homecoming Queen before one of the largest crowds to watch a TIC game at Rose Stadium in several years. The internationally known Apache Belles nervously awaited the moment when they would perform at halftime of the Dallas-Pittsburg football game broadcast on national television. The band hummed the numbers to themselves until the final moment before halftime. Both groups proudly marched onto the field with butterflies knotting their stomachs. Then as tens of thousands watched, the band pounded out number after number accompanying the Belles' precision drills. On campus the drama department sparkled in the spotlight of Neil Simon's hit, God's Favorite. Top: Band members take a break before practicing for the halftime show of the Cowboy game. Middle: Belles spend their last moments prior to showtime stretching in Texas Stadium dressing rooms. Bottom right: The saxophone section listens to instructions for the next tune.
