I 5 The man who has been responsible for Tyler Junior College since its infancy, President H. E. jenkins, was recently called by the Pow Wow a man dedicated to the junior college movement. A pioneer in junior college work, Dr. jenkins has brought honor to the college, to the city of Tyler, and to Texas through his work as an educator on local, state, and national levels. This year he brought additional honor to them by being the first junior college president to serve as president of the Southern Association of Colleges, an organization compo-sed of 3,500 educational institutions in eleven southern states. He is also on the executive committees of several regional and national education-al organizations. In addition, he is the author of numerous publi- cations and magazine articles. His most recent work is a revision with other educators of a volume he Wrote in 1952, A Guide to Self-Evaluation of junior Colleges. Dr. Jenkins received his BS from Kansas State College, his MA, the University of Missouri, and his PhD, the University of Texas. He was dean of Tyler junior College when it was connected with the Tyler school system and assistant superintendent of the school system. Upon separation of TJC from the school system in 1946, he became the first president of Tyler Junior College. Active in community and church affairs, Dr. Jenkins is the superintendent of his church school and a member of the board of stewards of the church. He is also a 330 Mason.
