The lights were dimmed, the fragrance of the hon- eysuckle filled the air, and as the music of My Own True Love floated across the lawn of the Hermitage, the dream of months became the reality of the first Jun- ior-Senior Prom at Two River. Seniors and their dates, entering through a rosecovered trellis, were presented as they crossed the front lawn of the stately mansion. The Hermitage itself, looking down upon the whole scene, stood grandly as lightfrom the moon bathed its white columns and as a soft spring breeze rustled the leaves in the trees surrounding it. The one-horse buggy, waiting at the entrance to the plantation, stood opposite Mr. Jackson's home and it was there that Prom photo- graphs were made. Atop the second tier, a hugh flatboat floated lazily down the Cumberland River. It was com- plete with a sentry in buckskin who fired his shotgun to signify the beginning and end of the dance. However, this garden wonderland was not created overnight, rather, itwas after many hard months of bake sales, car washes, and daily penny contributions that the Junior-Senior Prom began to materialize. Under the expert direction of the Junior Class sponsors, Mrs. Katherine Jamison and Mr. Bob Hollingsworth, plans were discussed, designs were presented and approved, and at last, construction was begun. After a week of missing classes and working con- stantly, the Junior Class finally errected the magnificent replica of the Hermitage, and put the final touches of Old South on the setting. Truly all who attended shall remember forever the charm of that evening and the majestic grandeur of My Own True Love. uf 1243 74
