PIRATE DEFEAT SHUTS OUT BULLDOGS The Pirates, with a one-game lead in their class, displayed their championship abilities with a 27-0 win over Dupont. T.R. went ahead 6-0 on a 26 yard pass play in the first quarter. Scores in the second, third, and fourth quarters, all on running plays, put another class AA win under the Pirates' belt. The defense led by Locke, Reeves, and Chuck Smith, with two pass interceptions, held its foe scoreless for the fourth time in a year. BUCS OVERPOWER AAA FOE The Bucs, having no trouble with teams from their own class, next met a strong AAA teamfrom West. The Bucs provedwith a 40-0 romp that they were a matchfor any N.I.L. team. During the first quarter there was no scoring and the teams seemed balanced. During the second quarter the Bucs broke loose with two touchdowns to take a 14-0 lead. The Bucs came through with two touchdowns in the third and fourth quarters while the de- fense held West in checkmate. The Pirates played, in the opinion of some, their best game ever. Both teams had long drives throughout the game but cou1dn't score. In the 4th quarter, the Pirate defense held the Dons within the T,R. one foot line for four straight downs. After the goal line stand, the Bucs gained control of the ball but a 3rd downinterception put the Dons in control once more. With a minute and 33 seconds to go, Donelson passed for the T.D. The 7-O loss was a bitter pill for a hard-working football team. PIRATES CLOBBER YANKEES The Bucs with a 4-1 league rec- ord came up next against the Yankees from North High School. The bal- anced Pirate offense showed its strength ongge more, while the defense led by Locke and Reeves, held the Yankees to only twelve points. A pass and a short run in the first quarter put the Bucs ahead. Three more runs and another pass play late in the game gave the Bucs their fifth league win, 38-12. STRATFORD SLIPS BY BUCS Two Rivers, with a commendable record of six wins to only one loss, was fired-up to meet its oldest rival. Stratford. The Bucs, weakened by the injury of their kicking special- ist, Dwight Cauthen, played hard but the Spartans slipped by with a 13-12 win. Both Stratford and T.R. scored early in the second quarter, and Stratford again late in the second, to give the Spartans at half al3-6 lead. The Bucs came back strong in the third and charged for 6 but the point-after attempt failed. In the fourth quarter, neither team could score so the Bucs fell to their AAAA rival 13-12.
