Maxwell put T, R. ahead with a 12 yard pass to Donald Johnson early in the first quarter. The longest gainer of the game came in the second quarter when Maxwell passed 70 yards to junior Chuck Smith. A junior quarterback, Jim Maxwell, in only his second start of the season, com- pleted 8 out of 10 passes for 121 yards. Cumberland scored late in the fourth quarter but presented no real threat to the Pirates who captured their second win of the season.

PIRATES ROMP T. P. S. The Pirates, defending AA champs, opened the 1965 season on a winning note by de- feating T.P.S., 41-0. Kenny Callis paced the offense by gaining 97 yards in 6 carries including a 60 yard gallop early in the first quarter. The Pirates pulled ahead 29-0 in the first quarter and coasted through the game with two more T,D.'s late in the second half. The Pirates displayed abalanced offense while the defense showed its strength also. Defensive standouts were Tommy Locke with 12 tackles and ll assists, and Terry Reeves with 11 tackles and 10 assists. Maxwell opened up with another pas sing show by connecting to Johnson with a 3 yard pass for the Bucs' first score. . Cau then showed his kicking skills and put the Bucs ahead 7-0. Maxwell hit Johnson again for a 40 yard gain in the second quarter to run the score up 13-0. The third T.D. pass and final score of the game came in the third quarter when Max well again took to the air and completed a 20 yard pass to Callis. Maxwell com pleted 8 to 14 passes for 114 yards, while Wright charged for 113 yards in 13 car ries.
