Happiness is being cheered on at a pep rally. “I’ll run a touchdown for a cold glass of ‘milk’,” says Clifford Estep. “I think a 28 AAA will do,” says Coach Sullivan to Sam Collins as Roger Stableton waits in line. 13

We can’t throw because their backs have knocked every- thing down we’ve thrown; but if we don’t get a first down we don’t have any chance of win- ning. Their offense is really tough. I though we were supposed to run all over these guys. We’re lucky to be as close as we are. That Howell kid can fly and Estep, tackling him is like hitting a wall. Good Grief, I thought the y didn’t have a team after all those guys quit and then with injuries but they just won’t quit. 1 guess they’re all crazy or something don’t they know they haven’t won one yet. Uh, fullback through two hole . . . “Wait just a minute. They have a bunch of mountain up front. On that last play that Rose and Ashworth about tore my legs off and Frasier just about KNOCKED my head off.” “O.K., we’ll run forty six counter.” “Are you crazy. That’s where Jennings is and even with two bad knees he’s as good as any tackle in the District.” “How about around the end?” “Not a chance those ends Ingle and Mann will tear your head off and if they don’t get you those deep backs Collins and Keith will ring your bell. Since you’ve got so much cour- age why don’t you just run it, I want to go home.” Time Brings Defeat . . . Sam Collins CO-CAPTAINS Clifford Estep
