Carroll Nestled in the shadows of Mt. Washington lies our community of Carroll, composed of Twin Mountain, Fabyans, Bretton Woods and Crawford. The White cottages which dot the hillsides and border the Ammonoosuc River, which winds its way through our community, lend enchantment together with the large hotels and cabin areas. Authors, poets, and painters have sung the praises of our town so richly endowed by nature, and farseeing men futher added to nature's glories the famous Cog Railway to the top of Mt. Washington. Thousands of people have come from all the corners of the world to view the beauties of our area from the highest inhabited peak in the East. Here on the heights botanists found Alpine flowers found nowhere on this continent south of Labrador. Our great universities conduct studies here, and a weather station is also maintained. Ours is the community where the storied Crawfords and Rosebrooks lived and worked. Twin Mountain has been called the cross roads of the White Mountains and one has only to view the traffic at the junction of Route 3 and 302 during the summer to realize the aptness of this title. We are justly proud of having the Mt. Washington Hotel in Bretton Woods chosen as the site for the World Monetary Conference, a meeting which has made our community a point of history. The summer visitor finds all kinds of accommodations in this area conditioned by nature and all sports in season are enjoyed. In the winter there is skiing, skating, snowshoeing, grange meetings, dances, and school basketball games. Out little school boasts one of the finest gyrnnasiums in the area, a tribute to our public-spirited citizens who saw a need and worked to fulfill it. We, who are fortunate enough to spend the four seasons here, should take great pride in our community and do everything in our power to further its interests. No person or township can remain as it is--it must either improve or go down and this presents each of us a challenge to be sure that our progess is assured. v . Q f - 1 A ,- a'g.1 l- . .
