(a ate 7 ay ———— ee ALLEN COUNTY PUBLIC LIB WOMAN A 3 1833 07522 6693 ‘al ad — - a as wore TIOGAN 1975 Twin Lakes High School Monticello, Indiana “The Need To Be” We are the hollow men We are the stuffed men Leaning together Headpiece filled with straw. Alas! Our dried voices, when We whisper together Are quiet and meaningless As wind in dry grass Or rat’s feet over broken glass In our dry cellar. —T.S. Elliot, The Hollow Men %. i all I think I could turn and live with animals, they are so placid and self-contain’d; I stand and look at them long and long. They do not sweat and whine about their condition; They do not lie awake in the dark and weep for their sins; They do not make me sick discussing their duty to God; Not one is dissatisfied—not one is demented with the mania of owning things; Not one kneels to another, nor to his kind that lived thousands of years ago; Not one is respectable or industrious over the whole earth. —Walt Whitman —Walt Whitman w ee ro) rn o — 5 -_ oO © — - as ‘b 34 age i —e Oo — re) — ® When I give, I give myself. I sit and lookout upon all the sorrows of the world, and upon all oppression and shame, I secret convulsive sobs from young men at anguish with themselves, remorseful after deeds done, I see in low life the mother misused by her children, dying, neglected, gaunt, desperate, I see the wife misused by her husband, I see the treacherous seducer of young women, I mark the ranklings of jealousy and requited love attempted to be hid, I see these sights on earth, I workings of battle, pestilence, tyranny, I see martyrs and prisoners, I observe a famine at sea, I observe the sailors casting lots who shall be kill’d to preserve the lives of the rest, I observe the slights and degradations cast by arrogant persons upon laborers, the poor, and upon negroes, and the like; All these—all the meanness and agony without end I sitting look out upon, See, hear, and am silent. —Walt Whitman if ed jii Hi he 8G . = ee . ‘ There’s a land that I see Where the children are free. And I say it ain’t far To this land, from where we are. Take my hand. Come with me, Where the children are free. Come with me, take my hand, And we'll live ... In a land Where the river runs free— Through the green country— To a shining sea. And you and me Are free to be You and me I see a land, bright and clear, And the time’s coming near, When we'll live in this land, You and me, hand-in-hand. Take my hand. Come along, Lend your voice to my song. Come along, Take my hand, Sing a song... For a land Where the river runs free— Through the green country— To a shining sea— Where the horses run free. And you and me Are free to be You and me. Every boy in this land Grows to be his own man. In this land, every girl Grows to be her own woman. Take my hand. Come with me, Where the children are free. Come with me. Take my hand, And we'll run... To a land Where the river runs free— Through the green country— To a shining sea— Z Where the horses run free— Where the children are free. And you-and me Are free to be You and me. And you and me Are free to be You and me. —Bruce Hart, Free to Be .... You and Me Everything has its season Everything has its time Show me a reason and I'll soon show you a rhyme Cats fit on the windowsill Children fit in the snow Why do I feel I don’t fit in anywhere I go? Rivers belong where they can ramble Eagles belong where they can fly I’ve got to be where my spirit can run free Got to find my corner of the sky. Every man has his daydreams Every man has his goal People like the way dreams have of sticking to the soul Thunderclouds have their lightning Nightingales have their song And don’t you see I want my life to be something more than long? So many men seem destined To settle for something small But I won’t rest until I know I'll have it all So don’t ask where I’m going But listen when I’m gone And far away you'll hear me Singing softly to the dawn. —Stephen Schwartz, Corner of the Sky 12 I bequeath syst to the dirt from the grass I love, : If you want me again ‘Ic under your boot sole You will hardly ie who am e But I shall be cond health to. rou - nevertheless, : And filter and oe our ble d. Everyday familiar buildings no longer were. People cried for their losses yet they helped others. Our school, only six years old, was half demolished. Looking back over the year and remem- bering going to school in portable classrooms, I’m sure we will ap- preciate our high school building more after it is repaired and we are in it again. With all of its handicaps though, we have survived. ADMINISTRATION UNDERCLASSMEN SENIORS fate bys. 7 ! onl min I The 1974 Prom was held in the Holiday Inn West on I 65 Brooks- ton Exit.
