to teach is to lecrnf' In their senior year some students participated in the program of ex- ploratory teaching. Each student spent about two hours every day helping a teacher. The explor- atory teacher chose the area of teaching in which he wished to participate. This program gave the exploratory teacher a chance to see exactly what teaching in- volved and to see if it was really the occupation he wanted to pursue. This program gave pre-vocatio- nal information and experience for those interested in the teach- ing profession. It also allowed the student to realize the responsi- bility placed on the teacher. Although the exploratory teacher enjoyed each session held with the students, he had duties to perform. They often prepared seating charts, read stories, and helped the children in their daily work. 60
