Typing students learn to operate manual typewriters and then ad- vanced to electrical ones in the second year course. Shorthand students met in the room equipped with electrical typewriters and learn to take dic- tation from taped recordings. Bookkeeping and Record keep- ing classes monopolized adding and calculating machines when they worked on practice sets al- though they also did a great deal of figuring manually. The instructor for the course used such entertaining materials as The Cat in the Hat, written in French, of course, and Bondour Peanuts. where the reader learned such informative things as Snoopy barking in French.
